On the 9th of December 2016, we at WAEL. took part in celebrating the diamond jubilee of one of the world’s most prestigious car clubs, the Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts’ Club (RREC). The event hosted the launch of their new publication entitled A Legacy of Luxury – Celebrating the RREC’s Diamond Jubilee which took place at the royal residence of Kensington Palace in London.
In recognising this auspicious event, we had to come up with an idea that would be glitzy enough to gather attention as well as display our creative spark.
What I had in mind was something I had wanted to do for a long time. It just so happened to be that the event of RREC was coming up and we had been offered a space to exhibit. – Wael
We then had to cut a pattern in order to obtain the perfect fit. Creating this pattern using muslin cloth is usually the preferable option as it is inexpensive.
Using the final statistics, we used 15 different types of fabric and individually stitched together 180 cut pieces of these fabrics to create a truly one-off custom made bespoke smoking jacket.
This meant that we had individually stitched each cut piece by changing the thread colour for every different fabric colour and put together –

The lapel, top collar, top wallet, welt pockets and cuffs on the sleeves were made in velvet. Using velvet for the lapel was the greatest idea because it just added so much more character to the jacket than would any other fabric would have.
